We believe every piece of Montane kit should be a long term investment. Not only does this help reduce its environmental impact (more on that in a minute), it’s better for you too! As your essential tools to help you access and stay protected in the great outdoors, we want you to keep hold of your favourite pieces of kit and continue to create many more memories with them.

That’s why we design and manufacture clothing and equipment that is durable and built to last. By carefully sourcing and testing the materials we use, we ensure these are fit for purpose and able to stand the test of time. But, of course, we know the nature of regular outdoor activities in challenging environments can inevitably lead to some wear and tear.

Cue the Montane Repair service, which aims to help you restore your kit back to its original glory! Launched back in 2018, our experienced in-house repair team is led by seamstress Claire, fondly known as 'repair Claire', who carefully assesses each request and lovingly restores it. Alongside ensuring you get to keep using the products you love, the great work carried out here is vital to help us avoid Montane garments unnecessarily ending up in landfill.

How Montane repairs work

From patch and panel repairs, to stitching issues and zip slider repair, we can help to mend a whole host of issues your product may have encountered. Simply take a look at our online repair form and follow the steps to get started. You’ll find a range of repairs we can cater for, as well as a price list.

Once we’ve received your repair request, we’ll take a look and get back to you with a response as quickly as we can. Repairs typically take up to 10-15 days (depending on the time of year), but in some instances can be quicker. For those items we can repair, we ask that you give these a wash before you send them to us.

Although we’ve offered this service since 2018, we wanted to update our online portal to help make this process even slicker, enabling you to easily tell us the issue so we can figure out a solution. Please be aware that our repair service is currently only available to UK residents - we hope to extend this to other countries in the future.

‘Repair Claire’s’ impressive craftsmanship and unrivalled skill with a sewing machine has rightly earned herself an impressive reputation here at Montane HQ!  Over the years, she’s managed to mend a wide variety of Montane kit in need of some much needed TLC. This includes patch repairs where products have been torn or burnt, adding extra down if there has been loss through a hole, as well as replacement of non Aquaguard zips, zip pulls and cord locks. 

Many of these pieces of kit come with an interesting or heart-warming story to tell.  We’ve seen first hand the importance of these cherished pieces and work hard to restore them back to their full potential. But don’t take our word for it! Here’s what you have to say…

Better for the planet

A recent government report revealed that: “around three hundred thousand tonnes of clothing ends up in household bins every year, with around 20% of this going to landfill and 80% incinerated.” This staggering stat reinforces a need to take better care of what we wear to help avoid contributing to this growing textile waste.

Ultimately, clothes that have a longer lifespan are better for the planet. By choosing to repair your kit rather than throw it away, you are personally able to help reduce your environmental impact. According to climate action NGO WRAP, “extending the life of clothes by just 9 months of active use would reduce carbon, water and waste footprints by 20-30% each”.

But what about the clothes that can’t be repaired by us? In some instances this will sadly be the case owing to a number of factors. We aim to repair as much as we possibly can but sometimes we won’t be able to. If this is the case, we advise you to donate these to  kerbside clothing and textile banks which can also be found at Household Waste Recovery Centres. It’s also worthwhile checking to see if your local charity shop can take old clothing that's come to the end of its life; the shop may be able to get cash for selling scrap textiles to a textile merchant.
