Synergy of science
A perfect synergy of science and practical experience, and the outcome of rigorous testing.
Designers worked extensively with Montane high-altitude athletes both in the field and in laboratory conditions, pushing the suit to its limits to ensure its technologies and features were capable of performing to the high standards required.
Testing in the cold chamber
Cold chambers were used extensively in the design of the Apex 8000 Down Suit.
Test protocols were created to allow accurate measurements of important metrics such as temperature differentials and relative humidity (RH), allowing our designers to prove empirically that the suits technologies and construction perform to the high standards demanded by our athletes.

I bought this jacket for an April trip to Svalbard.
I'm no mountaineer, just a person that likes to visit cold places so can't comment on the technicality of this jacket for those kinds of uses. Used for hiking, snowshoeing, boat trips, snowmobiling, sleeping in an ice cave etc.
I'm typically a very cold person and always need a bit more warmth, and the warmth of this did not let me down.
Size - yes it is bulky, it's not a jacket you can just put on whilst travelling from A to B because of how warm it is. Putting it in a compression dry sack for travelling helped, but it's still a decent size to carry around.
Warmth - I don't think I would pull out this jacket again unless it was -10C or colder. Unfortunately my trip wasn't as cold as I thought it would be (I really wanted to test this out in extreme temps) and most days were warmer than -10C. I often felt overheated even with the wind chill and a thin baselayer (walking). Wore the jacket open most of the time then.
We had 1 day of -15C and I was the perfect temperature underneath with a thin fleece underneath.
Wind - 80% of the 2 weeks were blizzard like conditions and this jacket did not let me down for wind. There wasn't a single bit of this trip that I felt cold or unprotected.
Had a boat trip that was rife wind and I couldn't have been toastier, even when stood still. We did have one day where the snow turned slushy and wet and it was at that point I was wearing the wrong item of clothing. But for dry conditions,…

The Apex 8000 is just a really good jacket and much more usable than you might expect. So long as you don't mind the colour it's not bad looking either, it's far from the most stylish thing in the world but it is at least a proper technical down jacket rather than just being in the style of one and although it's by no means a small jacket with over 500g of goose down packed in but it's not cumbersome to wear at all being very light with a surprisingly flattering fit and plenty of adjustments.
I originally bought it for a trip to Sweden but have ended up wearing it all winter the UK as it's just so nice, so nice in fact that I've sold my big parka from the Canadian brand that rhymes with loose as this is so much warmer, much easier to wear and much higher spec with some neat touches such as the the thickly padded internal collar, the vents on the arms and the concealed zip you can use to access in the internal pockets without having to unzip the entire jacket. And that's before you get on to value for money, which is not bad for what it is, and the fact that it's less likely to attract the wrong sort of attention.

Material is see through and can see the down through it. Velcro is stitched on rough and blocky.
Zip toggles are ineffective due to shape and size
