I live in northern Italy where the weather can be brutal in the Autumn and winter. As a committed long-distance runner it is essential to have equipment that is functional, reliable and robust. Says of running in the rain really impacts materials and has, over time, contributed to the demise of a number of jackets that simply fail. The material becomes overwhelmed and stops giving protection and adds to the problem of becoming both cold and wet. Enter the Montane Minimus - my latest attempt to brave the elements.
Unbelievably light in weight I was skeptical about the claims made about its water resistance and flexibility. My first 30km run in driving rain blew my skepticism out of the water (pardon the pun!). The water repellency was the first visible feature. Over 15km it was also clear that the breathablity of the materials was first-class - at this point in other kit you start to feel the dampness of your own sweat - the clammy feeling never arrived.
A long post but I can’t praise this jacket enough - lightweight, great form and function, dries really quickly and just does its thing time after time. 8 days of rain and I used it on 7 of them with no noticeable breakdown.
